Artist: Paul Saindon

Paul Saindon has always loved art and painting. Milestones in his apprenticeship include learning to paint with light (1970s), Color Theory with Lucia de Marinis of the Ottawa School of Art (1993), learning all about Plein Air Painting with John Alexander Day (1998 – 2002) and studying composition with Carla O’Connor (2007).

Paul, a retired engineer, is now a part-time high school teacher on sabbatical leave for a year. During this time, he has discovered the landscapes of the Charlevoix region, and has also finally had time to paint fall and winter scenes of the Ottawa area.

He has had four one-man shows, the most recent in October 2007,  and has participated in numerous group shows and art symposiums.  One of his paintings has been published in “How did You Paint That ? 100 Ways to Paint People and Figures”, International Artist, ed., 2004.  Collectors of his works are found in the Gatineau – Ottawa – Toronto corridor, and even as far away as Lebanon !

Paul produces both studio and plein air works, but finds that freshness and vitality in his studio work come from lots of plein air practice !  Visit his artist page for examples of these works.   Plein air works (18 x 24 inches or smaller) depict eastern Canada’s urban landscapes, while his studio pieces focus more on figures (sometimes in a musical setting, inspired by his musical family), interiors or landscapes.

Larry Deacon

Inspired by travel throughout Canada and the USA , artist Larry Deacon is in constant search of something new in the vastness of the North American landscape. Whether viewing the majestic peaks of the Rocky Mountains or the rugged coastline of the eastern seaboard, Larry ventures off the beaten path to seek out that forgotten boat, or deserted lighthouse on a foggy morning.

Over the last two years, Larry has devoted his full time to painting, and in doing so, has found added inspiration through the use of oils. His paintings have seen a sharp increase in sales with an expanding audience seeking his work due to his refined style that incorporates techniques of layering and glazing in his paints. He now holds a weekly class of semi-private art lessons that has seen the return of many of his students learning to master his new techniques.

Larry has participated in numerous local art shows and has expanded his ventures to include the Toronto Art Expo in 2007 and also this March 2008. He was accepted into the renowned McMichael Gallery’s Autumn Art Sale of 2007 in Kleinburg Ontario. Larry was also one of the finalists in a nation wide “Landscape” art competition in the Canadian Brushstroke Magazine.

Visit Rothwell Gallery to view Larry's artwork from Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 5pm and on Saturday, from 10am to 4pm.

Pierrette Dulude Bohay

Pierrette Dulude Bohay began her art career in Ottawa, studying first with fellow artists and teachers from her youth to classes at the Ottawa School of Art and workshops at Schneider School of Art in Tweed. Pierrette has continued her studies with many talented artists including Zoltan Szabo and Chen Kee Chee. Her love of the outdoors led her and friend Charlie Spratt to plan bi-yearly artist retreats in 1990 to various eastern outdoor locations including the Laurentians, the Eastern Townships and Charlevoix. This tradition has been carried on by fellow Rothwell Gallery artists.

Eye surgery in 2005 launched a new dynamic direction in Pierrette's style. While she continues to paint traditional watercolour still life and landscapes, this new direction produces pieces that are a joy to discover.

Visit Pierrette's page to learn more about her artwork.
