Artist's Profile
Deborah was born in British Columbia and lived there until she joined the Canadian
armed Forces. During her 20 years with the military, Deborah traveled extensively
across Canada. The diverse scenery she encountered in her travels inspired her to
become a landscape painter in her spare time. In 1992, having decided to give more
space to her artistic side, Deborah retired from the Forces, went to art school
and became a full-time artist.
Deborah Czernecky's works of art were once what she herself calls "subdued"; Deborah, at that stage, was rendering her subjects with realistic colours, which, at times can almost seem dull. An interesting event led to her stylistic metamorphosis. In the 1980's, Deborah suffered from a disease in her eyes which caused her to lose her sight temporarily. At that point, she was living in a cloud of white. As her eyesight came back, she was extremely happy to see colour again - that was a crossover point in her painting style. Her paintings are now vibrantly colourful. I consider them energetic and happy. Deborah likes that word "happy" - life is too short to get dragged down!
